Welding solutions for locomotives, wagons and the track

India’s rail network never stops, and neither does the wear on it — rails, wheels, journals and diesel engine parts take load every day of the year. Most of that damage is repairable in the shed rather than replaceable. Pick a part of the railway on the map to see which components fail, how, and the STANVAC range that returns them to service.

Isometric view of a railway depot — diesel locomotives stabled over inspection pit roads below the fuelling silos, a turntable in the middle of the yard, a repair shed spanned by an overhead travelling crane, bogies and coach underframes up on stands, and a permanent-way yard stacked with rail panels, sleepers and ballast.

How railway components fail
  1. Rolling contact

Rail ends, crossings and wheel treads battered by wheel loads until the manganese work-hardens and spalls away.

  2. Friction

Journal boxes, bearing ends and bushes running out of size where metal turns against metal all day.

  3. Thermal fatigue

Exhaust mufflers, manifolds and diesel valves cycling hot to cold until they scale and craze.

  4. Cracking

Cast housings, crank cases and under frames split by vibration, shock loads and shunting damage.

We’ll send the procedure.

Base metal, service condition and a photograph — an application engineer comes back with the consumable, the parameters and the expected life gain.
