Welding solutions for vessels that live in seawater

Seawater gets into everything on a ship. Pumps cavitate, condenser tubes thin from the inside, and machinery that runs hot one watch and cold the next cracks where dissimilar metals meet. Repairs happen at sea or alongside, with the part still in the vessel. Pick an area of the ship to see which components fail, how, and what we would put on them.

How marine components fail
  1. Seawater corrosion

Chlorides pitting condenser tubes, tube plates and pump housings, with crevice attack at every flange and joint.

  2. Cavitation & erosion

Impellers, wear rings and casings hollowed out where the water flashes to vapour and collapses against the metal.

  3. Thermal cycling & fatigue

Blocks, heads and exhaust parts cracking where they heat and cool again through every watch and every port call.

  4. Dissimilar metals

Bronze to steel, stainless to carbon steel — joints made on board, and the galvanic cells salt water sets up across them.

Send us the component.
We’ll send the procedure.

Base metal, wear factor and a photograph of the part — an application engineer comes back with the consumable, the parameters and a procedure your crew can run alongside.
