ER NiFe-CI
GENERAL APPLICATION:
ER NiFe‑CI is a nickel‑iron filler metal for welding and repairing cast iron components where strength and ductility both matter. The alloy has a substantial nickel content alongside iron, so it is well suited to welding grey iron, ductile iron and Ni‑resist castings to similar or dissimilar metals. Compared with pure nickel (Ni‑99) fillers, ER NiFe‑CI gives stronger, more ductile welds at a lower cost. Its balanced composition helps reduce brittleness and improves crack resistance in the weld and heat‑affected zones.

Main Features and Benefits
ER NiFe‑CI welding rods combine strength, weldability and reliability, so they are a trusted choice for cast iron welding and repair projects.
- High Nickel Content: at least 55 % nickel gives excellent compatibility with grey, ductile and Ni‑resist cast irons.
- Strong, Crack-Resistant Welds: mechanical strength together with resistance to solidification cracking.
- Excellent Weldability: supports TIG/GTAW and MIG/GMAW processes with a stable, controllable arc.
- Improved Corrosion and Heat Resistance: the nickel-rich composition improves resistance to oxidation and environmental wear.
- Versatile Applications: well suited to cast iron repair, overlay welding and joining dissimilar metals.
For maintenance tasks or heavy industrial components alike, ER NiFe‑CI delivers consistent quality.
Specifications
The ER NiFe‑CI welding rod is made with a precise chemical composition and mechanical properties that meet industry standards, giving dependable performance and professional-grade, consistent weld quality across cast iron applications.
| Specification Aspect | Value / Standard |
|---|---|
| AWS / ASME Class | A5.15 ERNiFe‑CI |
| Nickel Content | ≥55 % minimum |
| Carbon (C) | ~0.05 % deposited |
| Manganese (Mn) | ~0.25 % deposited |
| Silicon (Si) | ~0.10 % deposited |
| Yield Strength | ~62,000 psi (≈430 MPa) |
| Tensile Strength | ~89,000 psi (≈615 MPa) |
| Elongation | ~35 % |
| Processes Supported | GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) |
These figures show that ER NiFe‑CI offers higher mechanical strength and ductility than some pure nickel alternatives (such as ERNi‑CI).
Properties
The following properties make ER NiFe‑CI dependable in demanding welding environments:
- Mechanical Performance: high tensile and yield strength give strong joints that withstand stress and load.
- Ductility: good elongation lowers the likelihood of brittle failure in repairs.
- Thermal Stress Tolerance: nickel helps the weld zone absorb heat without cracking, which is a frequent problem in cast iron welding.
- Machinability: welds can be machined for finishing or fitting, which is a practical benefit for fabrication shops.
Combined, these properties make ER NiFe‑CI easier to work with than pure nickel rods when mechanical robustness and cost efficiency are the priorities.
