STAVITRODE A 18
DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS :
This heavily coated, basic-type austenitic manganese electrode is intended for wear-resistant hardfacing of building machines, grave mixers and any parts exposed to impact and frictional abrasion. What it lays down is a non-magnetic austenitic weld metal which hardens by work in service.
Typical uses include austenitic manganese steel castings, cast manganese steel railway crossings, crusher jaws, crusher mantles, dredger buckets, cement girder rings, swing hammers, pulverizer hammers and wear plates.
UNIQUE FEATURES :
- Deposit is austenitic and non-magnetic.
- In service the hardness climbs from 180 - 220 BHN as welded up to 400 - 450 BHN.
- Copes with impact combined with frictional abrasion.
- Current: AC or DC (+), 70 V OCV.
- Re-dry for 2 hours at 300 - 350°C.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is STAVITRODE A 18 used for?
STAVITRODE A 18 is a heavy basic coated austenitic manganese electrode for wear resistant hardfacing of parts exposed to impact and friction abrasion, such as cast manganese steel railway crossings, dredger buckets, crusher jaws, cement girder rings, crusher mantles, swing hammers, pulverizer hammers and wear plates.
How hard is the STAVITRODE A 18 deposit?
As welded, the weld metal measures 180 - 220 BHN, and it work hardens in service to 400 - 450 BHN.
Which welding current suits STAVITRODE A 18?
Use AC or DC (+) at 70 V OCV. Set 120 - 140 A for 3.15 mm, 140 - 180 A for 4.00 mm and 180 - 220 A for 5.00 mm electrodes.
Must STAVITRODE A 18 be re-dried before use?
Yes. Re-dry the electrodes for 2 hours at 300 - 350°C before welding.
