STAVITRODE A 46
DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS :
Rutile-coated austenitic manganese-chrome rod for abrasion-resistant surfacing. It is a natural choice for Hadfield steel items under mostly impact and shock loads: dredger teeth, beater bars, rail frogs and cross pieces. Deposited metal comes in at approx. 200 HB, and strain in service cold-sets it to approx. 500 HB.
Use it on gantry tracks, rails, frogs, cross pieces, crossings and points, drive sprocket wheels, conveyor rolls, crushers, hammers, bucket teeth, wear plates, shovel track pads, blow bars and impactors, either to build up or to finish over manganese steels, low alloy steels and low carbon steels.
Heat treatment: only pre-heating is needed, chosen to suit the base material. A low heat input prevents the formation of hard and brittle martensitic dilution zones.
UNIQUE FEATURES :
- Chrome-rich manganese weld metal.
- Approx. 200 HB as welded becomes approx. 500 HB once mechanical strain acts on it.
- A good fit for parts taking shock and impact.
- Runs on AC or DC (+); dry the rods again for 2 hours at 300 - 350°C when needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is STAVITRODE A 46 used for?
STAVITRODE A 46 is a rutile coated austenitic manganese-chrome electrode for abrasion resistant surfacing of Hadfield and manganese steels, covering rails, frogs and cross pieces, gantry tracks, drive sprocket wheels, conveyor rolls, crushers, hammers, bucket teeth, wear plates, shovel track pads, blow bars and impactors.
How hard is the STAVITRODE A 46 deposit?
About 200 HB in the welding condition. Under mechanical strain the weld metal cold-sets and work hardens to about 500 HB.
Does STAVITRODE A 46 need preheating?
Only pre-heating is applied, and how much depends on the base material. Weld with low heat input to avoid hard and brittle martensitic dilution zones.
What size and current does STAVITRODE A 46 come in?
It is supplied as 4.0 mm x 350 mm (Article No. .00.626.404) and runs at 150 - 180 A on AC or DC (+). Re-dry at 300 - 350°C for 2 hours.
