STAVITRODE A 56

STAVITRODE A 56

DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS :

Weld metal from this high build-up electrode withstands extreme compressive stresses.

Applications: underlayments on carbon and low alloy steels, or a stand alone overlay giving medium hard, tough build-ups for rails, shafts and similar components.

Microstructure: martensite with some carbides.

Welding technique: use a stringer or 3 x weave pattern, and the "whip" technique when welding vertically.

International specifications: DIN 8555 E1-UM-250 (AWS - none).

UNIQUE FEATURES :

  • Tough alloy that suits underlayments and medium hard overlays alike.
  • Machines excellently.
  • Does particularly well in vertical and horizontal position welding.
  • Welding positions: flat, horizontal, vertical up.
  • Current: DC reverse (+), or AC (70 OCV +).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is STAVITRODE A 56 used for?

It is a high build-up electrode for underlayments on carbon and low alloy steels, and also a stand alone overlay for medium hard tough build-ups on rails, shafts and similar parts exposed to extreme compressive stresses.

Can the STAVITRODE A 56 deposit be machined?

Yes. The deposit has a martensitic structure with some carbides at 25 - 27 HRC (270 Brinell) and excellent machinability.

Which current and welding positions suit STAVITRODE A 56?

Use DC reverse (+) or AC at 70 OCV, welding in the flat, horizontal or vertical up position. Set 100 - 140 A for 3.25 mm, 140 - 180 A for 4.00 mm and 180 - 230 A for 5.00 mm.

Which welding technique is advised for STAVITRODE A 56?

Weld in a stringer or 3 x weave fashion. For vertical welding, use the "whip" technique.
